I would like to see Marriott transform the Courtyards into the Hyatt Place level of comfort and technology. I would like the focus to be in room improvment rather then lobby. After all we all spend more time in our rooms then in a lobby. I am a loyal Marriott client however the Hyatt Place properties are making me consider a change.

Wow, the GoBoard is really neat. Especially the mapping feature. I find Microsoft’s Virtual Earth maps to be pretty neat, and it’s cool to see Marriott utilize that platform.
I don’t know if it’s possible, but it would be nice to sync points of interest or other places on the map over to your mobile phone. That way getting directions to these places would be fast.
And the whole lobby looks nice and comfortable as well. Great job.

Thanks so much for your comment. Currently, the GoBoard does not have printing capabilities, but we are in the process of developing the technology to allow it to do so. I’ll be sure to blog about that at some point soon!

I recently stayed at the Baltimore Airport Courtyard – this is by far the most convenient and functional lobby ever. My entire team was impressed! Everything about it, the GoBoard, the individual tv’s at each seating area, the convenient food/beverage, was well thought out. Every hotel should put this much consideration into the design of the lobby area….
And, btw, you can print from your room to a printer in the lobby, use lobby kiosks to check-in for your flight, etc…
The Go Board is cool but, is it practical? Only one person can use it at a time and I am not sure I want it displayed to everyone to know where I am going to dinner. Would suggest they look at a smaller screens for privacy purposes.

Is the Go Board available for companies to purchase?
Good idea, poor delivery. I think for 50K, Marriott could do a lot better. Sheraton is trying something like this now, and it is turning out to be more of a novelty than a functional guest interface. There is the ‘kid’ factor as well, and others that just play around with the maps, etc., creating an e-traffic jam for other guests wanting to partake. Just my take.
Go Board is less functional than I was hoping. It is mostly just a big banner of information instead of an interactive approach to finding directions and local attractions. There are free services that are similar in display are far more informative with directions and less unconventional than the Go board. What a rip for the poor franchisee’s that pay big money to put these in

Hey there – this is Bill Yackey, and I am editor of the news website Digital Signage Today. (www.digitalsignagetoday.com) I wanted to put together a story about the Go-board for next Monday. Is there a representative from Marriott there that I could interview briefly this week?

A few comments: I like what you’re doing with the lobby, it looks cool. However, if you’re really intending to reach young professionals, you’ve got to do something about the load time of the website. I would bet just about anything I own that you lose about 50% of your traffic to people who aren’t willing to wait 2 minutes for the website to load (and I’m an extremely fast network).
Also, as others have said, I still think more focus should be paid what’s in the room. I just stayed in a Courtyard Marriot in Hyannis, Cape Code, and the pillows and beds were pretty miserable…
To add a positive note, the lobby was beautiful, had Internet access, and an ice cream freezer with some of the best ice cream sandwiches I’ve ever had!
